From Ojo Streets to World Stage – The Making of a Legend

Official biography of Abu Abolaji Azeez (born 31 May 1994, Lagos). Last of five children, NCE graduate, professional footballer, beach soccer god.

Early Life & Struggle

Abu Azeez grew up in Ojo, Badagry axis of Lagos where beaches were playgrounds. Son of education-focused parents, his father disapproved of football, forcing him to watch friends join school teams. He waited till his father's death in 2005 to join a team. He bought his first boot with his father's gratuity. Attended Awori College Ojo, then Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos (NCE Science). At age 7, discovered unwavering passion playing street football in Mushin/Badagry. Last child of five, he used sandy beaches as training ground.

Discovered in 2009 during a friendly in Badagry where his team Owibeseb FC faced National Beach Soccer team preparing for World Cup. Coach Adamu Ejor invited him for screening. At 15 years 169 days, debuted at 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Dubai, scored twice.

Announced his retirement in 2016, but the coaches and the NFF declined it. He stayed with the Super Sand Eagles – playing football and beach soccer at the same time – and helped Nigeria to 2nd place at the 2016 AFCON hosted in Nigeria.

Trials with Mladost Lučani in Serbia (2016) and Samsunspor in Turkey (2017), then a short stint with Shooting Stars SC, Ibadan, Oyo State (2017).
